I spent a month traveling up and down the east coast this past fall.  It was great! One of the weddings I photographed while there was Abigail and Eli’s.

They are a sweet pair that technically “met” when she was 12 and he was 15 because he was good friends with Abigail’s older sister.  Eli is a professional DJ and music producer…so fast forwarding many years later, one of their mutual friends would ask Abigail to go out to whatever club Eli was DJing at. She did, they reconnected and have been together ever since!

We started the day at The Hotel on Rivington for getting ready…

At one point, while looking for a venue, they considered a beautiful old barn in upstate NY for their celebration.  However, once they stepped into the brick and glass of The Foundry, they completely fell in love with it…

The architecture and feel of it is cool and industrial, with metal beams and exposed brick walls and alcoves, but it maintains a wonderful warmth.  I love this venue and hope to shoot here again soon…especially if Landmarc is catering!  I really like Landmarc in Tribeca and try to go there on each visit– it is one of my good friend’s favorite restaurants!

After eight years, Abigail and Eli had already made a commitment to each other so they wanted their wedding to be a celebration for their friends and family. The goal was simple: to have a really fun party.

Some special, community-oriented aspects really tied everyone into the day in a much more meaningful way. For instance, Abigail’s sister has a blueberry farm up in Maine and her family made everyone a jar of delicious blueberry jam as wedding favors. One of the bride’s oldest and dearest friends was ordained to marry them. Additionally, several friends and family members were also asked to stand up and offer a wish or blessing to the couple as they moved forward in their relationship, which made the event feel more communal. Eli’s grandmother made Kourambiedes which are Greek cookies that are closely related to Mexican wedding cookies. So good!

One of Eli’s friends and also a fellow music professional, DJ Cosmo Baker, was at the turntables that evening. Close friend, groomsman, and filmmaker, Francisco Sorriano, shot some footage on his Super 8 camera throughout the day to add to the couple’s visual memories!

All of the vendors I worked with were so friendly and great to work alongside. I had a tough time narrowing the images down…I hope you enjoy this great story!
