Wedding Day.

The wedding day was an elegant but relaxed afternoon and evening held at Legends Resort which is a small resort of villas nestled into the mountainside overlooking the beautiful blue expanse. Local musicians set the tone while a Tahitian priest married the couple in an intimate ceremony, complete with a rainbow making an appearance just after the completion of the vows. Guests enjoyed a 5-course gourmet dinner in the property’s Villa des Sens and, in the Swedish tradition, there were lots of toasts (each humorously introduced in a multitude of languages by the groom’s brother). Manuía!

On the second day, guests were taken by boat to swim with huge rays and then soak in some relaxation on a nearby motu. While there, they snorkeled, listened to more local musicians, were taught how to make a local favorite, poisson cru, and how best to break down a coconut.

Dear Moorea, I love you. Yes, yes I do.
In fact, I love a lot of what I saw and experienced on several of French Polynesia’s volcanic Society Islands. How could you not? I hope the photos are worth all the words I would otherwise (and inadequately) insert into this post to describe the deep beauty of these islands and this culture.

Late one day recently, I fell in love with the most graceful sliver of sun as it draped itself along the smooth curve of this hillside.

I am so thankful that Hope Town seems to be doing alright after Hurricane Irene swept through there! This spring, we fell in love with the colorful bursts of beauty and the good people we met when we traveled to photograph Mary Allison & Chester’s destination wedding in Hope Town, Bahamas.

Here are a few photos of familiar scenes in Hope Town, Abacos, Bahamas…back in the sweet springtime. Pretty wedding photos to share soon enough, too… If you’re interested, I found some brief footage from Jim Edds on the hurricane, shot from Hope Town Harbour Lodge, too.

So, I’m calling last year my “3 T’s” for Thailand, Tahiti & Texas. I’d say those were my most memorable and favorite travel experiences of the year. That said, I was really only on Tahiti for a day and most of my time was spent in Taha’a (pictured in the previous blog post) and then on Moorea to photograph the destination wedding there.
The photo above was taken in Northern Thailand, very close to Chiang Rai, at the stunning Wat Rong Khun (White Temple). I believe it was started in 1998 by one of Thailand’s most renowned visual artists, Chalermchai Kositpipat, and it is still in the process of being built. White on white on white…mixed in with small accent mirrors, a blue sky and a serene buddha figure meditating on a lotus flower = GORGEOUS! Enjoy.

As promised, I am sharing more photos from this beautiful, romantic day in Mexico…
Kim & Milton shared a very special and intimate wedding ceremony in Mexico. Geographic distances between families prevented them from having a joint wedding with the “normal” guest list of special characters. So, after a small legal ceremony and dinner with (some) family in their hometown several months before, they flew to their destination wedding (and honeymoon) in Cuixmala, Mexico to complete their marriage celebration by exchanging rings for the first time and sharing their handwritten vows with one another.
