…and amazing HENNA!

It is such an honor to be asked to photograph another artist’s (and vendor in the event business) very special day!  Leighsa Montrose, the beautifully kind, sweet and huge talent behind Branch Out Floral & Event Designs, renewed her vows this past April 22, 2010, EARTH DAY!  The celebration took place with close friends and family at the Swedenborgian Church in the Pacific Heights neighborhood of San Francisco.

Leighsa and her husband originally exchanged vows in Hawaii so they brought in some traditional Hawaiian leis to incorporate this detail.  I think her henna work took something like 6 hours and was done all freehand by Bay Area henna artist, Kamala Chandrasekhar of Henna World.

So, as expected, the floral details were absolutely beautiful, so artistic and unique.  Leighsa’s bridal bouquet was an amazing pop of orange pincushion protea flowers accented with chocolate fiddlehead fronds and peacock feathers.  Even the stems of the flowers were tucked into a cone which was expertly dressed in earth-toned feathers and 3 brass bumble bees topped off the finishing touches.

Thank you so much, Leighsa!  I am looking forward to sharing some photos from an entirely different wedding that I had the pleasure of working on with Leighsa which took place at Nestldown in the Santa Cruz mountains…soon soon.

Valentine

February 12, 2010

Admittedly, I’m not big on the whole Valentine’s Day push.  That said, its not such a terrible thing to more thoughtfully recognize the presence of love, in general.  So with that, have a loverly weekend, all.

I’ve been meaning to share these two engagement shoots for a while now, so here they are.
Both of these take place in San Francisco, which is packed with amazing locations!

The first one, Emilie and Gray’s, took place at a couple of key places where the couple spends their time.
We started at the California Academy of Sciences, where Gray works.

I happened to really like that lone little pink fish up there on the left — odd one out, in the best way!

After the Academy, we ventured outside and on to their house to finish up.  Their kitty, Frankie, even joined in for a few, which was so kind of her, indeed.

Second up:  Divina & Tyler have a very urban wedding happening in a few months at Grace Cathedral and the Mark Hopkins Hotel which A Savvy Event is coordinating!
To balance the imagery of these two shoots, their engagements encompassed a bit more greenery with a little architectural/city edge, too. It was a cold, wet day, but they were such troopers and we all had a great time!

City Club of San Francisco

December 19, 2008

Thanks to Michelle Kimmins at The City Club of San Francisco for including me in her latest blog entry about their planning services!  I had the great pleasure of working with her for Katie & Mike’s wedding this past season. I can’t wait to shoot there again!

They also happen to be highlighted in Style Me Pretty’s Little Black Book for a San Francisco venue.

Katie & Mike

October 24, 2008

Katie and Mike celebrated their wedding day in several fantastic San Francisco locations!

A number of key moments of their story are all centered within this great city. They met at San Francisco’s annual Black and White Ball and later became engaged at Crissy Field. On the day of the wedding, Katie and Mike chose to meet up in a suite at the Fairmont Hotel, atop Nob Hill.  From there, we went to Pacific Heights to enjoy the view and take some couple’s photos.  Following their ceremony in the gorgeous St. Mark’s Lutheran church, trolleys took guests downtown to The City Club of San Francisco located in the Stock Exchange Tower — this is a wonderful, art deco, financial district location.

One of the details I especially liked was that as an alternative to wedding cake, Katie and Mike opted for not only a table of Italian cookies but even better, an old fashioned gelato cart serving up three absolutely delicious, all-organic flavors!  Sean Boyle, the owner of SF Gelato, was recently the “Ice Cream Curator” (now that is an expert title that I can work towards…) for San Francisco’s recent Slow Food Nation event.

Table names were all meaningful locations to the couple which were later brought downstairs and placed on the guestbook table along with some old family wedding photos.  The day was jubilant, elegant and so fun to be a part of.  Congratulations, Katie and Mike!
